Eadweard Muybridge has been an inspiration to us at PAIFF ever since we learned of the experiments that took place in Palo Alto back in 1878 that led to the evolution of motion pictures. Dex's Day in History. 15 June 1878 – Eadweard Muybridge takes a series of photographs to prove that all four feet of a horse leave the ground when it runs; the study becomes the basis of motion pictures. Today, Muybridge is known for his pioneering work on animal locomotion in 1877 and 1878, which used multiple cameras to capture motion in stop-motion photographs, and his zoopraxiscope, a device for projecting motion pictures that pre-dated the flexible perforated film strip used in cinematography.

For his pioneering work in motion-sequence still photography he became known as the "Father of the Motion Picture."
